About Us

Sabrina Sandvi Berry,  Owner/Director
Sabrina believes her eye for observing and analyzing movement began as far back as age 12.  It was then that she began serious ballet training with the Augusta Ballet School in her hometown of Augusta, Georgia.  Directors, Ron Colton and Zanne Beaufort, served as mentors for her very late entry into the technical demands of ballet.  They were kind enough to allow Sabrina to stay later after her own classes had finished to watch more advanced classes.  This focused observation time along with the need to be even more voracious in learning movement in classes to catch up to the other students was really the beginning of a lifetime of “seeing” the body.

Sabrina went on to dance professionally with the Augusta Ballet Company performing such classics as The Nutcracker, Les Sylphides, Coppelia, and Giselle.  She then went on to The Juilliard School in New York City where she obtained her BFA in 1994.  It was there that movement became even more specific in learning the very different classical Modern Dance techniques of Martha Graham, Jose Limon, Paul Taylor and others.  The South drew her back to live and work where she founded and directed American Dance Art, a Modern Dance company that performed annually at the Blumenthal Performing Arts Center as well as an appearance at the Endinburgh Fringe Festival to favorable reviews. Sabrina served as full time faculty at the North Carolina Dance Theater School of Dance from 1997 - 2011.  She taught many levels of ballet and developed the Modern program as well as choreographed for the apprentice and trainee classes.

Ms. Berry came seriously to pilates after the birth of her second child and discovered a second career and love in teaching the amazing work of Joseph Pilates. She obtained her comprehensive certification from Balanced Body University.  She feels grateful to her expert teachers, Sylvia Byrd-Leitner of Pilates Core Center in Cherry Hill, NJ, Zayna Gold of Boston Body, Joy Karley of Pilates Reforming NY, and Lesley Powell of Movements Afoot in NYC.  She has received special training in shoulder anatomy and function by internationally renowned teachers Doris Pasteleur Hall and Lesley Powell.  She has also received specialized training on the use of Pilates repertoire to help those with back pain associated with ruptured, herniated, bulging, degenerative discs and/or muscular pain due to imbalance.  Sabrina’s latest continuing education studies are taking her into understanding and reading the body through the myofascial meridians per the work of Thomas W. Myers.

Brooke Buchanan
Brooke is a graduate of Appalachian State University with a degree in English Secondary Education. She has decided to take her love of teaching from the classroom to the studio. Having been involved in athletics and fitness since the age of 5, Brooke enjoys incorporating exercise into an everyday routine.
Brooke’s appreciation for Pilates, however, did not come until a severe knee injury in college forced her to rethink her workout style. After months of physical therapy, Pilates was an appropriate extension to her regimen. The mind-body connection taught within Pilates became attractive to her, as body awareness through exercise has become a key component in enhancing her training experience. She has spent the last 7 years studying and taking Pilates from several respected instructors, enjoying the holistic benefits that Pilates provides.

Brooke is enrolled in the Balanced Body University program and is in the process of receiving her comprehensive mat and full apparatus certification. This involves hundreds of hours of classes, observations and teaching sessions. She has also attended special workshops on the spine, neck and shoulders, pelvis and feet with world renowned functional anatomy teacher, Eric Franklin. Brooke is enjoying deepening her knowledge and experience as an apprentice teacher at Sandvi Studio
